There’s something truly special about a classic, homemade Spaghetti Bolognese that warms the soul and fills the kitchen with rich, comforting aromas. Our recipe is inspired by Nanny Mo’s (Steph’s Mum) cherished family favourite, crafted with love and a few secret ingredients to give it that extra depth of flavour. It’s the kind of meal you’ll want to savour slowly, with tender beef mince, perfectly simmered tomatoes, and aromatic herbs, all blending together for a cosy dish that’s both simple and sumptuous.
Served with fresh spaghetti, and lashings of cheese it is an absolute treat for a cold autumn evening!

(Please note – we doubled the recipe in these pictures as we were feeding 8 of us this time and also please note if you like mushrooms & carrots, the original recipe does have these included but we have fussy eaters so don’t add them in)
Steak mince: order today!
Ingredients (To serve 4):
- 450g Eat Great Meat 100% Steak Mince
- 2 cloves garlic (chopped or minced)
- 1 large red / green pepper (chopped)
- 1 large red onion (chopped)
- 1 x 400g tin of chopped tomatoes (with or without herbs)
- 70g tomato puree
- 1 tsp of dried oregano
- 1 x beef stock pot in 500ml boiling water
- Tomato ketchup (a big squirt)
- Hendersons relish (few dashes)
- Salt & pepper (to season)
For serving:
Fresh or dry spaghetti
Cheese – we choose double gloucester, but fresh parmesan is also a winner.
Method:
STEP 1 – Sauté The Onions
Add a little oil to the pan, and add the chopped onions. Sauté for a few minutes until soft, adding a few splashes of Hendersons Relish (or Worcester Sauce if you aren’t from Sheffield).
STEP 2 – Brown The Mince
In batches add the mince and brown off with the onions. Add the chopped garlic.
STEP 3 – Add The Remaining Ingredients
Now add the chopped peppers, tinned tomatoes, puree, stock, salt & pepper, oregano & ketchup, with another few splashes of Hendersons Relish. Give everything a good stir and bring to the boil. Once boiling, turn down to simmer for 1 ½ – 2 hours. Keep stirring throughout and any additional seasoning to taste.
STEP 4 – To Serve
Cook your chosen pasta, drain and share into pasta bowls. Add a large serving of the Spaghetti Bolognese and your chosen cheese. The more the better for us! Delizioso!
